Oh, how the world has changed at record speed! We are now practicing social distancing, self-quarantined in our spaces and it’s got me thinking a lot about the MEANING of HOME.

I’ve come to the conclusion we ALL have three homes and they are inviting us to see them, protect them, and understand they are sacred.

Our first home is planet earth and she is making it crystal clear with this pandemic that we are ONE.  One global community, connected, transmitting and affecting one another in ways perhaps we had yet to comprehend.  Making choices that protect and sustain our beautiful planet and each other are LITERALLY vital to our very survival.

Our second home is our inner home, the one we spend the most time in, and the one perhaps most often neglected. It’s so important to take care of your inner headspace, heart, and soul and make sure its needs are being met.

Our third home is the physical place we go to restore and rest.  It’s the place where we get to connect with our loved ones…and our self.

As a professional Interior Designer, I have devoted my life to creating beautiful sanctuaries for my clients.  I have watched the quality of their lives be radically transformed and up-leveled when they are surrounded by beauty, comfort and spaces that reflect their vibe and life story.

During this time of quarantine I am still designing with the help of video conferencing, but for those looking for some DYI tips to quickly (safely) and easily transform their home into a sanctuary, check out the following:

3 DIY Tips to take your space from “lockdown” to “luxurious retreat”…

1. Bring in plants and/or fresh flowers!
They are life, beauty and nature and they elevate the mood and clean the air.  Most grocery stores still have fresh flowers and if yours doesn’t go on a walk and pick some.

2. Declutter! (You finally have the time to do this!)
If you are looking for some inspiration, order the book called The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up, by Marie Kondo. When deciding what you should keep or what should go, she invites us to ask the question, “does this item bring you JOY?” If its not a hell yes, then it’s a let go. She didn’t say it exactly like that, but that was no interpretation of it. ;)

3. Aromatherapy with candlelight.
The mood-altering affects of scent and candlelight are REAL & totally transformative. Dim the lights and light your candles. Close your eyes and take in the scent. This practice will slow down the nervous system, quiet fear and worry, and reconnect you with the present moment.

All practices that bring you back to your center and invite you to feel calm, peaceful and connected are taking care of your third home, your beautiful sacred inner home. I do that with the help of yoga, dance and meditation and being present with things that bring me pleasure…like the scent of a luxurious smelling candle.

If you haven’t checked out my Eco-Friendly candle company, REJOY LIVING, I invite you to do it now so you can transform your home to your retreat.

From now, until the end of quarantine we will be offering 20% off your entire order.  Use the discount code COURAGE20 at checkout.
Be safe friends and let’s take care of ALL of our homes and each other.

With LOVE & GRATITUDE,

Rejoy Marsella
